FAQs
Answers to Frequently asked questions
What do I wear when having a massage?
Whatever makes you comfortable. Most clients undress to their underwear, and this assists me to access muscles. You’ll always be securely draped with towels, and only the area being treated will be exposed.
Will the massage hurt?
Not at all. Unlike some remedial massage sessions, I use RemStone Therapy. This allows me to use the smoothness of the stones, heat when necessary as an extension of my hands, allowing deeper release with less intensity. You may feel firm, soothing pressure — but if anything feels too strong, you can tell me and I’ll adjust immediately.
Do we talk during the massage session?
Initially, I have to ask questions to ascertain your expectations, pain and condition that needs to be addressed. But it's totally up to you. Some people enjoy chatting, others slip into deep relaxation. I follow your lead. The goal is for you to unwind and feel safe throughout the entire session.
Do I need to shave before my massage?
Interesting question. Generally, no, but I have had men who shave their legs as cyclists and as men's hair is courser, it does tend to act like sandpaper! But hair has zero impact on how effective the stones are. I’m only focused on your muscles, tension patterns, and helping you feel better.
What's the difference between RemStone Therapy and Hot Stone Massage?
RemStone Therapy® is remedial, targeted and super-effective for pain and tension utilising stones as massage tools. Hot Stone Massage is Spa-like, and is more about placing stones on the body and sweeping hot stones for relaxation.
What's the difference between SpaStone Massage and Hot Stone Massage?
SpaStone is the bespoke expression of Stress Fitness within RemStone Therapy® — a luxury, tailored relaxation experience. It delivers slow, soothing, intentional stone work that deeply calms your nervous system. Hot Stone Massage, by comparison, is more generic and spa-standard, focusing on placing and sweeping warm stones for comfort.
Do you always use stones when you massage?
Most of the time, yes — because stones help me give you better results with less strain on your body. RemStone Therapy® was created so I can work deeper, more effectively, and more comfortably without digging elbows or thumbs into you. The stones allow me to release tension faster, target congestion with precision, and keep your treatment consistent from start to finish. I still use my hands when needed, but the stones act as an extension of them — giving you a smoother, warmer, and often more effective treatment than traditional hands-only massage.
In short: I use stones because they help you feel better, and they protect me so I can keep doing the work I love.
What type of stones do you use? And are they always heated?
I use black basalt stones, which are naturally formed volcanic stones. They’re spewed out of volcanoes, built to heat up, cool down, and stay incredibly stable. Basalt retains warmth beautifully, has a smooth texture, and is strong enough to be used as massage tools without cracking. Beach pebbles might look nice, but they’re unpredictable — they often contain quartz or mixed minerals that can heat unevenly, hold rough edges, or even break. Basalt gives you a safe, consistent, and effective treatment every time. I choose these stones because they let me work deeply and precisely without wearing out my hands, so you get better results with less discomfort.

Warm stones help your muscles soften, relax, and respond faster, no matter the season. Just like you don’t suddenly start having cold showers just because it’s summer, I don’t switch to cold stones. Heat is what makes RemStone Therapy® work so effectively, all year round. Every stone is warmed with intention, so your body gets the deepest, safest and most comfortable treatment possible.
What if I fall asleep?
Go for it! Many people drift off during a massage as it's incredibly relaxing. I’ll continue working and gently wake you when the session is over. I used to massage an Orthopedic Surgeon who, after so often do 16hr days, would come in for a 2-hour massage, fire at me the instructions in highly complicated Anatomy language and then promptly go to sleep for the entire time!
Should I eat beforehand?
A light meal is fine, but avoid anything too heavy right before your massage. You want to feel comfortable on the table, not full or bloated.
Do you massage men?
Yes, as well as children and the elderly.
How often should I get a massage?
It depends on your goals. For general wellbeing, once a month is great. For pain, tension, or chronic conditions, weekly or fortnightly sessions can speed up results. I’ll help you choose a plan that suits your body and your schedule.
I'm seeing a Physio & Chiro - should I tell you?
Yes. All practitioners work differently and have their own treatment plans. Always best to disclose if you are seeing someone else to avoid interfering with outcomes.
What will I feel after the massage?
You may feel relaxed, lighter, or a bit tender (like you’ve worked out), which will ease in a day or so. Drink water, take it easy, and let the benefits settle in.
Can I claim your massage on Health Funds?
Short answer No. Unfortunately, as a full-time massage therapist, I was once a Health Provider for every health fund. Still, because I let my association membership lapse a few years ago (life got in the way with other things), I am required to redo my diploma at the cost of $7k, which I obtained in 2001. The annoying thing is that I am a Stone Massage Coach, a trainer for many years, and my 25 years of experience as a hands-on practitioner (and probably 100,000+ hrs) does not account for anything. So to counter this, and because I came back to massage because it's my passion, I love it and missed helping people, I offer subsidies, value packs, and monthly specials to help you commit to your better health!
